APEC Discusses Integrity as a Condition for Sustainable Growth

The event was organised by China’s National Commission of Supervision and Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) under the APEC Anti-Corruption and Transparency Experts Working Group.

The discussion focused on practical issues: how to reduce corruption risks for businesses, increase trust in public institutions, make financial systems more resilient, and ensure that cross-border trade and investment are more predictable. Participants noted that, for Asia-Pacific economies, integrity is becoming one of the factors of competitiveness and long-term growth.

The workshop brought together more than 150 representatives of APEC economies, international organisations and specialised institutions.

During the session, participants considered how anti-corruption mechanisms can be integrated into economic policy and corporate governance. Particular attention was paid to the exchange of experience between the public sector, business and international organisations, as well as to identifying solutions that help prevent corruption risks before they arise.

Representatives of relevant agencies and organisations presented approaches to developing a culture of integrity, increasing market transparency and strengthening international cooperation. It was noted that effective anti-corruption efforts require a combination of control, prevention and the development of sustainable ethical standards.

Following the workshop, participants emphasised the importance of exchanging experience and developing international cooperation in corruption prevention. They noted that joint approaches to strengthening transparency and integrity help create a more sustainable and predictable economic environment in the APEC region.
